SHOCK resonated through Kilwinning and Irvine on Monday as news of the tragic deaths of Darren Greenan and Laura Frey spread throughout the towns. The couple had been attempting to rescue their pet dog from the River Garnock when Laura (33) got into difficulties in the water. Darren (33)was swept away as he tried to rescue her. Laura was quicky rushed to Crosshouse Hospital - where she also worked as a nurse - but later died. Darren's body was discovered on Monday morning. The couple's young seven-month-old daughter is understood to have been with them in a pushchair at the time of the incident and is reported to be with relatives. The bodies of two dogs are also believed to have been recovered from the river. Please take the time to pay your respects to the couple.
