I always tried to visit to visit Ted over the years on 10 yearly return to Saltcoats and although 40 years have passed since we were friends Ted,Billy Cochrane Robert Mazda and me, on those rare visits the warmth was always still there
I am reminded of Leonard Cohens note to Marianne on hearing of dying that soon he would be joining her and whilst metaphorical rather than literal, it is the way for many of us now , coming to an end and making room for someone else as we become older, accept that as the wya it is and the way that it should be but the pain of loss obscures that and we can only wait for the time to accept it and move forward.
i am writing to you from a Budhist temple in Vietnam where I have come for some years to reflect on these things for myself, so it is particularly relevant to me along with the loss of another old friend.
It may be of little comfort to you but on the day of his cremation ,I observed some Budhist rites on his behalf , It is not for his soul but in acknowledging his humanity
I hope that in time you will find your own peace and acceptance
You may recall me, I was Rab Pentleton in that other life
