IRVINE’S MP has once again hit out at travellers after a group ‘set up camp’ on Irvine Moor.
Brian Donohoe is urging North Ayrshire Council to take action to stop any groups of travellers entering the Moor, even suggesting blocking access.
The Times told in March how Mr Donohoe - a vehement campaigner on issues relating to the travelling community - spoke out against travellers leaving rubbish strewn in Irvine’s Meadowhead Avenue.
The local politician has again called on NAC to implement greater restrictions to travellers setting up illegal encampments.
He said: “I am aware there are necessary steps which require to be taken before an eviction order can be issued by the council but in the meantime residents in the immediate vicinity of the encampment are worried about the mess being made, dogs being allowed to run around unattended and the overall disturbance.
“I sincerely hope the council see fit to deal with this latest encampment, of which I am informed is one of four in the Irvine area, expeditiously and perhaps temporary measures should be taken to try and block access of this sort to the Moor as we can’t have these encampments popping up all through the summer.
“If they are not dealt with swiftly the area will become an easy target for travellers and I am sure nobody in Irvine wants to see an increase in this type of situation.”
