A 49-year-old man suffered a fractured jaw after being attacked by youths in Irvine.
Detectives are investigating the shocking incident after the man was assaulted when walking past a group of youths near the entrance underneath The Forum at 9.45pm on Saturday, January 18.
He is understood to have since received a plate in his jaw, with one of the town's community councillors calling for CCTV in the area since the shocking assault.
Community councillor Marion Taylor said: "A friend of mine was badly beaten down there a few weeks ago and someone has asked why they can't close shutters off there at night.
"This was down at the riverside at the entrance into the back of The Forum. He was in hospital for a few days and finished up with a plate in his jaw - and this was kids. They should have CCTV."
Police Scotland confirmed CID inquiries are ongoing into the attack with no arrests made so far.
