Two men who viciously attacked a couple in their own home with a hammer and blade while demanding money are still on the loose.

A man and woman, both aged 30, were rushed to hospital after the attack by two masked-men in Seaton Terrace at 10.35pm last month [Thursday, January 14].

The Times was told masked men entered the house with weapons demanding money, before attacking the man with a hammer and reportedly cutting the woman’s ear.

The pair were taken to Crosshouse Hospital for treatment to their injuries and later released.

CID detectives have appealed for any information to help trace the thugs – with Police Scotland confirming enquiries remain ongoing after the shocking attack.

It is unknown whether the men left in a vehicle or on foot.

Both men are described as being around 6ft tall, both wearing balaclavas.

One of the men was wearing described as wearing shorts.

Detective Constable Lee Duncan, of Saltcoats CID said: “This couple were attacked within their own home, a place where they should feel safe.

“We are carrying out enquiries in the area but would appeal for anyone who was around Seaton Terrace late last night, or who may have dash-cam or home security footage to get in touch with us.

“You may have the information that can help us.”
