IRVINE Sea Cadets were on the crest of a wave after going to sea for the first time this year.
The Sea Cadets and Royal Marines cadets were delighted when TS John Jerwood arrived to take them on a day trip to Arran.
First, the youngsters were given a safety briefing alongside the training ship at Ardrossan harbour before being welcomed aboard.
After setting sail, the cadets were given the chance to take the helm on the bridge to steer the vessel and go below to see how the engines worked.
All that sea air brought on an appetite, so anchor was dropped in the Firth of Clyde for lunch before resuming the trip and fun nautical activities.
Finally, the cadets lined the deck in naval tradition for entering harbour on their return to Ardrossan.
Sub-Lieutenant (SCC) Robert Duncan, commanding officer of Irvine Sea Cadets, said: “It was our first time afloat this year and everyone was really excited to be back on the water in such
style.
“We’d like to give a big thank you to Sea Cadets Offshore for the experience and for being so welcoming onboard TS John Jerwood.
“Irvine Sea Cadets are well and truly back in action!”
The Irvine Sea Cadets meet regularly at the Army Reserve Centre on Corsehill Mount Road in Dreghorn, between 7pm - 9.30pm on both Tuesdays and Thursdays.
