A man in his forties was taken to hospital after he was allegedly attacked by a twenty-year-old in Townhead as Italy beat England.
A twenty-year-old man was arrested after police were called to disorder at 11.05pm on Sunday [July 11] near the store and across the road in the carpark area.
A second young man, 20, was given a recorded warning by cops for threatening behaviour during the incident - with the other since released to later face court after being charged.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Police received report of a disturbance on Townhead in Irvine around 11.05pm on Sunday, July 11.
“A 47-year-old man sustained serious injuries and was taken to Crosshouse Hospital in Kilmarnock for treatment.
“A 20-year-old man was arrested and charged in connection and released on undertaking to appear at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court at a later date.
"Another 20-year-old man was given a Recorded Police Warning in connection with breach of the peace.”
