Irvine's skate park near the beach has been removed over safety fears with council bosses promising it will be replaced.
Council chiefs today confirmed the equipment has now reached the end of its lifespan following a recent inspection - but promise new equipment under consideration will be finalised as soon as possible.
A spokesperson for North Ayrshire Council said: “When it comes to our play facilities, ensuring they are safe for our children and young people is absolutely key. We have a routine inspection and maintenance programme in place covering all of our play parks and skate parks across North Ayrshire.
“We have previously carried out repairs and maintenance to the skate park at Irvine Harbourside in a bid to increase its lifespan.
“However, during the latest inspection, it was noted that the condition had deteriorated faster than expected. The equipment has now reached the end of its lifespan and is being removed in the interest of public safety.
“The good news is that the equipment will be replaced. We are currently finalising options and will progress these as quickly as possible.”
