A FOOTBALL history writer who is currently working on his new book is looking to track down anybody who might have more information about two players from Kilwinning who played for Greenock Morton in the 1920s.
Graeme Ross has written several books about the club, and working on a book for the centenary of Morton’s historic win against Rangers to win the Scottish Cup in 1922.
He told the Herald: “The Morton side contained two players - Robert Brown and James McMinn who both started their careers with Kilwinning Rangers. I believe both were born in Kilwinning - Brown circa 1888 and McMinn 1900-01.
“Brown played in the Kilwinning side which won the Junior Cup in 1909 and was a runner-up the following year. He then signed for Rangers and joined Morton in 1919.
“James McMinn joined Morton from Kilwinning in 1921 and later played for Ayr. If any relatives of the players would like to contact me with any information they have on the two men.”
Graeme has already found Robert Brown was born on October 1, 1888 in Union Place Kilwinning and died in February 1962. He lived in Woodwynd Cottages Kilwinning when he died and had three children, so there may be grandchildren.
He continued: “I am almost certain that James McMinn was born in (Townhead) Station Street Kilwinning in 1901 and died in Kilwinning in 1959.”
