The family of missing Saltcoats teen Jamie Cannon are appealing five months after their son’s disappearance as their neverending nightmare and uncertainty continues.
Jamie was last seen back on Thursday, May 20 at 10am on Kinnier Road before he was reported missing on Saturday, May 22.
The 19-year-old is described as being 6ft 1” tall and was wearing grey jogging bottoms, grey trainers, and a blue jacket when he was last seen. He was also carrying a camouflage backpack.
His disappearance has been described as “completely out of character for him” and his family and friends remain extremely concerned.
Five months on Toni McGovern – who has been helping lead searches for Jamie across the area told of the family’s pain as they appeal for anyone with any information to get in touch with officers.
She said: “Since Jamie’s left home, there has never been another sighting since that horrible rainy wet Thursday morning. Rumours are getting so bad, but every rumour that has been told has been checked because you just never know.
“Jamie’s parents are at their wits end with worry day in day out, wondering is this the day they will get answers? Is this the day their son will walk through the door or is this the day his brothers get to play computer again as a family?
“Every day Jamie’s mum is searching somewhere either on her own or with friends and family, a parent’s worst nightmare. Please please do the right thing and get Jamie home, this not knowing is killing them more daily.
“Put yourself in this parent’s shoes you would want to know where your wean is.”
Police have continued to appeal to the wider public for any information on his whereabouts with North Ayrshire’s top cop thinking residents for their support.
Chief Inspector Alan Paterson said: “Sadly, five months on from when he was last seen Jamie Cannon remains missing.
“We have kept in regular contact with his family during what has been an incredibly difficult few months for them having to deal with not knowing where Jamie is.
“Extensive searches and enquiries have been carried out and we are grateful to the local community for their support during this time.
“Any new information received will continue to be investigated fully and anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to contact police on 101, quoting reference number 1623 of 22 May.”
Chief Superintendent Faroque Hussain previously urged Jamie to make contact ‘to let his family know ‘you are safe and well’.
Inspector Alison Wilson of Saltcoats Police Office said: “As time goes by we are increasingly concerned for the welfare of Jamie. We are urging residents to check any sheds or outbuildings that they have for signs that Jamie may have taken shelter there.
“We are extremely grateful to members of the public who have assisted us already. We remain committed to utilising all resources available to us, in conjunction with the tremendous effort from the local community, to locate him. If you have seen him then please contact us without hesitation.”
Anyone with information that can help Jamie and his family can be passed to Police Scotland officers on 101 – In an emergency call 999.
