A lane in the centre of Irvine has been closed off by council bosses amid concern at the effect of the weather on a prominent building.
Chapel Lane, leading from the High Street to West Road, has had to be closed off over concerns at loose slates on the roof of the former King's Arms.
The council have apologised for any inconvenience after temporarily closing Chapel Lane alongside the building - with work currently ongoing to remove loose slates.
A spokesperson for North Ayrshire Council said: “Following the recent stormy weather, some slates have become loose on the roof of the former Kings Arms building in Irvine.
“While works are ongoing to remove dislodged slates and assess the general condition of the roof, we have taken the decision to temporarily close Chapel Lane from the car park at the rear of Bridgegate House to the High Street.
“We will reopen the lane once we are satisfied that there is no risk to public safety.
"We apologise for any inconvenience.”
