A COMPETITION to crown Ayrshire’s best pub is heating up as the finalists emerge following regional heats.
The Twa Dugs in West Kilbride is up against the Glen Park Hotel for South Ayrshire, the Weston Tavern in Kilmaurs representing East Ayrshire, and The Grapes, Stranraer for Wigtownshire in the battle for the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) accolade for the whole of Ayrshire.
The Glen Park Hotel received their award last week, when branch chair Lindsay Grant presented pub owner Anne Rossi with a certificate.
The winner of the South Ayrshire heat now find themselves up against the other area winners which are The Weston Tavern, Kilmaurs representing East Ayrshire, The Grapes, Stranraer for Wigtownshire and Twa Dugs for North Ayrshire, all competing for Ayrshire and Wigtownshire pub of the year.
Also in receipt of an award last week was Anthony Valenti, master brewer and owner of Ayr Brewing Company. Their beverage Rabbie’s Porter won Beer of the Year.
Ayr Brewing Company are currently located at Glen Park Hotel where as well as brewing they have a comprehensive bottle shop, stocking their own award-winning beers and a wider selection from all over Britain and beyond.
A spokesperson for the Ayr Brewing Company said: “Delighted to see Rabbie’s Porter awarded Beer of the Year, from Ayrshire and Wigtownshire CAMRA.
“Great night was had and there was a rare appearance by Dr Hornbook! Big thanks to A&W CAMRA and all who came along.”
