PRIMARY five students from St Luke’s Primary in Kilwinning embraced the fun that is World Book Day recently.
Thankfully the weather held together on Thursday, March 3 - something that’s been far from guaranteed of late - and they not only got to enjoy their favourite novels, but do so outside the regular classroom.
A school spokesperson said: “Wow - what a great day our P5s had for World Book Day today. They made the most of our outdoor reading area and our brand new school library.”
Even better for the students was they got to enjoy their right to relax - something they have been learning all about during their studies of the UN rights of the child.
Many also enjoyed the chance to dress down for the day, with some pupils taking on familiar faces from their favourite book characters.
The first World Book Day in the UK and Ireland took place in 1997 to promote reading for fun.
Now World Book Day continues to encourage children and young people to read for pleasure through its work with authors, illustrators, bookshops and libraries.
The day was celebrated right across North Ayrshire, with other local schools running a number of different activities.
First and second year pupils at Irvine Royal Academy got involved with a world book day themed quiz while even the staff joined in the dress up fun as they transformed into their favourite book characters for the day.
