Organisers of the popular Irvine Marymass festival have confirmed the long awaited news that this year's edition will go ahead.
The festival has taken place only virtually since 2019, with 2020 being the first cancellation of proceedings since the second world war.
Locals have been able to enjoy the online version of events, alongside the in person Marymass derby between Irvine Meadow and Irvine Victoria, but nothing quite rivals the spirit of the event as a whole.
The Times reported earlier this month, how organisers were in discussions over the potential return, which was confirmed in a committee meeting yesterday, March 17.
It means that we once again will be able to enjoy the parades, crowning ceremony and of course the hotly contested greasy pole battles.
Normal service will resume, as it always does, in the latter half of the summer, August 20, with full details of times and places of events to be confirmed nearer the time.
