Irvine Burnsians got back together in the Volunteer Rooms to celebrate the life and work of Ayrshire’s bard after Covid restrictions forced the cancellation of the annual Burns Night celebrations at the beginning of the year.
Members of Irvine Burns Club held their annual celebration on Friday, April 1 after their plans had to be put on ice due to concern over Omicron case numbers across Scotland in January.
And while the traditional ‘Burns season’ might have passed, that didn’t stop members of the club - which will be 196 years old in June - enjoying a traditional celebration of Burns’ life and work, with music, poetry, song and the traditional ‘bill o’ fare’ with haggis, neeps and tatties as its centrepiece.
Photographer Charlie Gilmour paid a visit to the Volunteer Rooms as the evening got under way to capture just a little of the spirit of what, despite the Covid-enforced change of plans, remains a very special occasion for all those involved with the club.
Well done to Irvine Burns Club for organising another great night!
