Cops are urging caution over bogus door-to-door sellers in Irvine after attempts to 'sell broadband packages and run speed-tests' in Castlepark.
A woman, reportedly wearing non-uniform dark clothing, and who police describe as having a foreign accent, was seen door-knocking properties in the area.
When asked to see her ID, the woman claimed she had forgotten it.
The suspect woman claimed to one resident that she was working with several other representatives of BT/Compare The Market in the area.
No other persons were seen.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Be cautious with any door-to-door sales attendees. Even callers legitimately selling broadband have been subject to complaints to Ofcom.
"These complaints have included mis-selling promised broadband speeds, services and the alleged ISP you are signing to.
"Consider legitimate companies that are recommended to you by those you trust."
Any information regarding this or any similar incidents, can be reported to Police Scotland by contacting 101.
