A young man has been ordered to pay compensation for injuring a 16-year-old girl after he punched her on the head in an Irvine community hall.
James Smith, 20, admitted assaulting the young lady during an event in Irvine’s Volunteer Rooms on February 5 this year - understood to be the Kilmaurs Young Farmers Club ‘Neds and Nerds Dance'.
He also admitted resisting arrest and struggling violently with officers – with not guilty pleas to two other charges accepted by prosecutors.
Smith, of Roebank Road, Beith, was fined £400 and ordered to pay £300 compensation to the victim when he appeared in Kilmarnock Sheriff Court on Thursday, May 12.
Police Scotland can be contacted on 101 – in an emergency always dial 999.
