Residents and a firm bidding to sell fresh milk through vending machines hit out after plans were refused due to the council’s town centre first policy.
Go Vending thanked residents for their support after the Times revealed the refusal last week – adding they hope the decision is not the end of the matter.
A spokesperson said: “We are really disappointed with North Ayrshire Council’s decision to reject planning permission for a concept born during the difficult period we faced due to Covid 19, when we were encouraged to diversify as much as we could to survive.
“Our Director Graham not only launched our Wholesale division, he also came up with the idea of offering a unique vending retail experience in his hometown with plans to collaborate with a brilliant local farmer.
“Through this concept we have aspirations of being a valuable addition to the community, providing healthy options to the public, enhancing jobs, bringing increased footfall to the area which will benefit the entire community and becoming a great resource for North Ayrshire.
“Having searched for appropriate properties within local authority we decided the former Jarvie Plant would be the ideal location. With great access and parking as well as space to develop new and innovative ideas and additional concepts.
We are grateful for the support and encouragement we have received. We are hopeful that this is not end.”
Reacting to the news on Facebook last week, Laura Robertson said: “Literally right across from the school, surely that would do great business.
“How’s that town centre first approach going? I’m assuming with the amount of boarded up units not too great.”
