Water has been restored for around 2,500 Irvine homes after a mains supply burst over night.
Scottish Water engineers worked through the night to restore supplies to customers in Irvine whose water supply was disrupted yesterday evening [June 17] by a burst on a 15 inch trunk main on the south side of the town.
After isolating the damaged section of water main, Scottish Water say their team were able to restore supply to the Tarryholme area and reconfigure the local water network to restore flows to properties in the vicinity of Irvine Industrial Estate.
As a result, supply was restored to around 2,500 homes and businesses that were initially affected by the early hours of this morning. Some customers are experiencing lower than normal water pressure or discoloured water while the temporary arrangement remains in place.
An issue occurred with the temporary supply arrangement this morning, causing some further disruption at around 10am, but this has now been resolved and supplies to the affected customers have been restored.
A team is on site near Shewalton Road, working to excavate and repair the damaged trunk main in order to restore normal service to the local water network.
A spokesperson for Scottish Water said: “We would like to apologise to customers in Irvine who experienced disruption to their water supply yesterday evening or this morning – and thank them for their patience while we are working to restore normal service as quickly as we can.
“Our work last night enabled us to restore supply to the homes and businesses that were initially affected. We continue to monitor the performance of the temporary supply arrangements in place and are now focused on completing a challenging repair to the trunk main.
“As a result of temporary changes to the normal flows of water through the network, some customers are experiencing lower than normal water pressure or discoloured water. These issues will be resolved once the repair is complete and the water network can return to normal operation.”
A small number of properties in the vicinity of the burst may have been affected by flooding until the damaged section of water main was isolated. Any affected property owners who are not already in touch with Scottish Water are encouraged to call 0800 077 8778 so that assistance can be provided.
