Around 20,000 homes in Irvine look set to benefit from new ultrafast broadband coverage.
Wholesale fibre broadband operator Netomnia has today announced that its full fibre multi-gigabit network is being rolled out in the town as part of an investment of up to £6 million in the area.
Netomnia says it will provide fibre-to-the-premises (FTTP) broadband infrastructure to around 20,000 premises in Irvine.
The company is partnering with Novo Technologies to roll out its broadband infrastructure in Irvine, enabling speedy deployment using cutting edge optical solutions.
Netomnia’s ultrafast, reliable network will be beneficial for continuing to attract technological and innovative businesses to the area – a trend that has been increasing in recent years.
Jeremy Chelot, CEO at Netomnia, said: “It’s fantastic to be continuing our expansion across Scotland, ensuring as many people as possible have access to an ultrafast network that they can rely on.
"Our latest investment will bring real benefits to the area, whilst causing minimum disruption, using existing infrastructure.”
Dr Philippa Whitford, MP for Central Ayrshire, said: “I’m delighted that Netomnia will be building its ultrafast broadband network in Irvine. I am confident that our residents and local businesses will benefit greatly from Netomnia’s full fibre network, which will further support our digital infrastructure and enable economic growth and employment opportunities in the area.”
Netomnia makes wholesale connectivity available to internet service providers (ISPs), building the infrastructure for their broadband services.
Its network supports symmetrical (equal upload and download speeds) multi-gigabit services up to 10 Gbps (10,000 Mbps) using XGS-PON technology; this means ISPs using Netomnia’s network will be able to offer their customers reliable ultrafast speeds for decades to come.
