A KEY Irvine commuting route is to close for roadworks next week.
Work is being carried out on Kilwinning Road, between James Crescent and Marress Road, from Monday, July 18 until Friday, July 22.
But the work - which will take place from 8am until 8pm each day - will also result in Marress Road being closed.
Four-way traffic signals will be in operation and drivers using Kilwinning Road are being asked to allow extra time for their journey.
A signed diversion will be in place, and those wishing to access the Harbourside area will need to use Marine Drive during the closure period.
Councillor Scott Davidson, North Ayrshire Council's cabinet member for place, said: “We know roadworks can be inconvenient, particularly for those living nearby, but we are also aware that the condition of our roads is one of the top priorities for our residents.
“These improvements are vital to ensuring one of our busiest roads meets the standard that our residents expect.”
Drivers are advised to use diversions where possible and to allow extra time for travel if using Kilwinning Road between July 18 and 22.
