THE team behind plans to reopen a much-missed Saltcoats nightclub have insisted the project is still going ahead.
The Metro in Hamilton Street has been closed for more than a decade.
In 2019 clubbers in North Ayrshire were given signs of hope for the popular venue's rebirth after businessman Jagtar Singh announced it would be reopening.
Mr Singh is not carrying out work on the premises himself, but the team behind the project have done their best to keep residents updated as the plans developed.
Now, nearly three years after the reopening was announced, just how close is the Metro to opening night?
It was never going to be an easy task, with extensive, and expensive repairs needed to bring the building back up to scratch.
Throw in a lockdown and ongoing cost of living crisis, no one would have blamed the team for giving up - but they have not!
The first properly planned opening night event has, however, come and gone as those behind the work have encounterede yet more stumbling blocks.
Last weekend, August 27, was lined up to be opening night, with organisers planning a 'Lost Weekend' to re-christen the iconic venue.
However, unforeseen delays in water work being completed meant the event was postponed.
In an announcement on the Metro Facebook page, those behind the project confirmed the reason for the postponement - but insisted it was only a delay and that the club will still reopen, hopefully in a few months' time.
They said: "The news no-one wants to hear but unfortunately due to unforseen circumstances we have to delay the Lost Weekend event until later in the year.
"Things outwith our control have put added pressure to open this summer, the water being one of them, and we can't open if we have no water."
"Our aim is to open on or before Hallowe'en this year.
"The issue with the water has taken over a year, believe it or not, but is now close to being done, but won't be complete till after August
"Anyway, as ever, we will continue regardless of all setbacks (there's been a lot) and keep pushing on.
"(We) hope everyone understands its frustrating for us as well as our supporters."
They also went on to answer further questions regarding the opening in comments on their post.
While one person stated the building did not look ready for re-opening from the outside, the project team stated this "wasn't a priority" before launching.
And those who already purchased tickets for 'Lost Weekend' can contact event organisers with any queries.
So Hallowe'en may well be a date everyone wants to keep open in their diaries, as the Metro looks to re-open for the first time since 2011.
