Members of the public are invited along to join recently-elected councillors in a historic service to mark a new term at North Ayrshire Council.

The traditional Kirkin’ of the Council service is to be held this Sunday, September 11.

The Kirkin’ is long-held custom to inaugurate a new term for the local authority and usually takes place following local elections.

Elected members and officials are joined by local organisations and members of the public where a blessing will be bestowed on the Council by the local clergy.

Provost Anthea Dickson said she hoped members of the public will come along to attend this weekend’s service.

She said: “I would be delighted to see our communities come together for what is a traditional and historic service.

“The service is open for anyone to attend and it serves as a reminder that we all have a part to play in working to improve the lives of everyone in North Ayrshire.”

Prior to the Kirkin’ service, attendees will gather outside Irvine Townhouse at 1.30pm and parade to Irvine’s Old Parish Church from about 1.40pm.

The 2022 Kirkin’ of

the Council service will thereafter take place at 2pm.
