IRVINE residents fear "this will just be the start" following the closure of a popular clothing store in the Rivergate Centre.
Core Clothing in the town's mall pulled the shutters down for good at the end of last month, before the weekend of September 24.
Located in the heart of the shopping centre, Core Clothing had been in operation, specialising in men's and boys' branded clothing, since 2017.
The closure seemed to come out of the blue' with little to no prior warning leading up to this.
While the retailer was advertising a "massive summer sale" with 40 per cent off everything in store, which included the tag line "everything must go", it was not made apparent that this was due to impending closure.
In fact, one local was left gutted commented on social media that they were informed this was definitely not the case.
They said: "I bought vouchers for birthday present last week in Core irvine as there was a good sale on.
"I asked if they were closing, they said they were just having a clear out. I just phoned Rivergate management who said they are closed."
Another said a relative of theirs had only began working in the shop a few weeks prior.
The sale was also advertised across the social media platform Instagram, with no clear indication this was for any reason other than to clear summer stock as we move into autumn.
However, one post did state this was for "a limited time only", though this is a common tag line used in the advertising of seasonal sales.
There has been no statement from the retailer since advertising the sale on September 7.
While their website is still live for the time being, all items have been marked as 'out of stock'.
Core was a small, independent retailer, with Irvine appearing to be the only branch of the store anywhere in Scotland.
And upon hearing of the closure of the shop, one resident commented that "this will just be the start".
While others simply stated "no way" as they expressed their shock at the news.
The Rivergate Centre were approached for comment, however had not yet responded at the time of writing.
