A MAN has been charged in connection with a crash on the A78 near the Pennyburn Roundabout in Stevenston.
The crash involved three vehicles and a woman had to be taken to hospital to be checked over following the incident.
It is understood that two others that were involved in the incident received a precautionary check up at the scene.
The collision took place just after 4.30pm today, December 8, one lane was closed following this.
It did not re-open for over two hours following the crash after the vehicles had been recovered from the road.
Drivers in the area reported massive tailbacks and bumper to bumper, standstill traffic during this time. Reports suggest this tailed back as far as Irvine and Prestwick.
Police did not confirm if the woman, admitted to Crosshouse Hospital for a check over, has been released as of yet.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "At around 4.40pm on Thursday, December 8, 2022, we were called to a report of a three car crash on the A78 near Pennyburn roundabout.
"One woman was taken to Crosshouse Hospital to be checked over.
"Recovery was arranged for all three vehicles and the road reopened fully at around 6.45pm.
"A man has been charged in connection with the incident and a report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal."
