The roads, structures and street lighting maintenance programmes for North Ayrshire in 2022-23 are nearing completion.
But soaring costs will mean some projects may not make it next year, Cabinet Member for Place Scott Davidson has warned.
Councillor Davidson told Tuesday’s full counci meeting: “The carriageway maintenance programme is nearing completion.
“Of our carriageway resurfacing projects, 96 per cent of the works are complete, with works currently ongoing in Milton Quadrant and High Street, Kilbirnie.
“Bathville/Parkview/Pundeavon Avenue/Lynne Drive, Kilbirnie and Gigha Terrace/Gigha Wynd, Irvine are outstanding and will be completed before the end of March 2023.
“Carriageway resurfacing in Stanley Road and Galloway Place, Saltcoats has had to be re-scheduled into 2023/24 to enable an assessment of the existing drainage infrastructure following a flood event in September this year.”
“The footway resurfacing programme is underway and remaining works are to be completed for March 2023.
“Structures are well on target to spend the approximate £1m budget allocated for 22-23 and about 75 per cent complete and the full budget allocation will be expendable by the financial year end.
“Likewise the Street Lighting Capital Programme is currently on schedule to spend all of the £1.56m Physical Structure Renewal Investment and the £490,000 lantern energy efficiency allocated through the NAC Investment Fund by the end of March 2023.”
On next year, when asked by Kilwinning Labour member Donald Reid how rising costs would affect the work done, Councillor Davidson said: “The annual report on roads structure and street lighting maintenance programme will be presented to the Cabinet for approval in February/March 2023.
“It’s highly likely that rising inflation will have an impact on the number of schemes that can be progressed.
“The cost of coated roadstones which are used for road surfacing repairs has increased by 35 per cent in the past year and contractors’ cost for street lighting works have increased by 18 per cent with street lantern material costs up by 24 per cent,
“This will all be factored into the programme for 2023-24 and will be presented to Cabinet in March 2023.”
