KILWINNING Rangers have announced their latest managerial appointment.
It comes exactly two weeks after they parted company with previous boss David Gormley.
Chris Aitken has been confirmed as the man taking up the hotseat at Buffs Park - departing current club East Kilbride, who play one league above the Buffs, in the Scottish Lowland League.
Aitken also brings managerial experience from the senior ranks of Scottish football, having taken brief interim charge of League Two side Stranraer FC, where he was also assistant manager for four years.
In his time as assistant boss, he worked under Buffs legend Steven Farrell.
He also boasts an impressive playing CV, having began his career at Greenock Morton, before enjoying spells at Clyde, Hamilton, Ayr, Stranraer and Stirling Albion.
Kilwinning Rangers confirmed Aitken's arrival with a statement on their club website earlier today, February 10.
It read: "The management committee have gone through an arduous process to find a manager we feel can bring some much needed stability to the team and improve performances on the park.
"We can all agree Kilwinning Rangers shouldn’t be a club in the relegation battle.
"By appointing Chris Aitken to the club we feel he is the man to propel us up the table and secure our safety within the West of Scotland Premier Division.
"Chris was the standout candidate on paper and when the management committee met with him, we knew he was the right fit for the club and will bring high standards and professionalism to the team."
Current Kilwinning player Chris Millar will still take the team on Saturday against Beith in the WoSFL Premier League match - before Aitken officially takes the reigns on Monday.
And it is something the new boss told the Kilwinning Rangers media team he is very much looking forward to.
Aitken commented: "I’m delighted to be here and can’t wait to get going. Hard work starts now and with the vision and commitment with everyone connected to the club. I can’t wait to meet the players and get started.”
While club chairman Colin Evans added that he is confident that the new man at the helm was the perfect candidate for the job.
He told Kilwinning's media team: “We’re delighted to welcome Chris Aitken to the club following a busy application process for the managers position.
"Chris made a good impression to the management committee and gave solutions to improve the football results at the club.
"Everyone at the club will give Chris all the support he needs for the immediate position we find ourselves in and the long term project at the club.”
The new manager's backroom staff will be announced in due course.
