POLICE were seen rushing into Irvine's Rivergate Shopping Centre earlier today, Monday March 20.
Eyewitnesses said they saw as many as three police vehicles at the scene at around 4pm.
They added that officers proceeding to exit the vehicle and "sprint" into the mall.
However, those at the scene were unable to confirm the nature of the incident which brought police to the shopping centre, which they exited only a few moments after arriving.
The Times can now confirm that Police Scotland say that it was a "false alarm" which brought them to the mall - though they did not clarify exactly what they had been alerted of.
They added that no further police action was required.
