KILWINNING Rangers are now bottom of the West of Scotland Football League (WoSFL) Premier Division.
It comes after a weekend to forget for Chris Aitken’s side.
Everything began on Friday night when the Buffs looked to erase the memories of their trip to New Cumnock on Tuesday.
The Buffs lost 2-0 to Glenafton, but were hoping the visit of their East Ayrshire rivals Cumnock to Buffs Park would produce a better result.
And all signs were positive when the home side dominated large parts of the early proceedings.
They then took the lead on 16 minutes when Thomas Collins slotted home a penalty after George Sewell was adjudged to have handled the ball inside the box.
The scoreline remained the same, with little action in the match until Cumnock’s Jared Willet was shown a red card for a tackle and then off the ball incident with only 10 minutes remaining.
Kilwinning Rangers’ top scorer Thomas Collins had to leave the pitch on a stretcher.
Though Buffs' coach Owen Archdeacon told the Times they are hopeful his injury may not be too serious.
He commented: “We don’t know how TC (Thomas Collins) is, we’ll need to assess that in the next few days. Hopefully it’s not as bad as what we first thought."
Still though, the Buffs seemed to be cruising to three points at this stage, until 94 minutes when Jack MacCalman let the ball bounce in his own box.
As he failed to clear the ball, George Sewell nipped in and was pulled back by the defender, resulting in a Cumnock spot kick and red card for MacCalman.
Findlay Frye duly slotted home the spot kick to level the match and the game ended 1-1.
Coach Archdeacon said: “I thought we were excellent. I feel sorry for the players because they deserved three points from that and it was a sucker there at the end.
“It’s not like it was on Tuesday night and we played bad, we were superb for long spells of the game.
“We’ve said to the boys in there, we just need to take the positives from it, we were excellent.
“On another night that doesn’t happen at the end, we win 1-0, it’s a great result and the place is bouncing up there."
Though he added that he is aware performances alone are not good enough
Archdeacon commented: “We need to start winning games, that’s it. We need three points. Points here, points there isn’t going to cut it.
“If the boys give us the effort and we play the way we played for 95 minutes there we’ll pick up more three points than we won’t.”
Kilwinning Rangers face Kirkintilloch Rob Roy tomorrow, March 29, in what has now become a more vital match.
The Buffs moved bottom of the league on Saturday as then last placed side Cambuslang defeated Hurflord.
They are currently seven points behind Wednesday’s opponents - the closest team to them outside the relegation zone.
