REPORTS of a person in the River Irvine prompted an emergency response last night.
Irvine locals reported on Sunday, May 21, that the coastguard helicopter could be seen flying low over the town for a period of time from around 9pm.
Flightradar shows that the helicopter flew along the River Irvine from Irvine beach park, also travelling up the River Garnock for a brief period.
Other eyewitness around the area reported seeing police vehicles tracking along with the aircraft.
And the HM Coastgurd team has now confirmed that the agency, along with Police Scotland, were responding to reports of a person in the River Irvine.
After being alerted to the incident, the coastguard team from Ardrossan, inshore lifeboat from Troon RNLI and Coastguard helicopter from Prestwick were all called to the scene.
This led to an extensive search, though nothing was found and the search was called off.
A HM Coastguard spokesperson said: "HM Coastguard and Scottish Police responded to reports of a person in the River Irvine last night (May 21).
"Alerted at around 9pm, the Coastguard Rescue Team from Ardrossan, inshore lifeboat from Troon RNLI and the Coastguard helicopter from Prestwick were sent to the scene.
"An extensive search of the area was completed with nothing found.
"Content there was no danger or risk to life, the search was terminated."
Police Scotland has been approached for comment.
