A NEW community group has formed in a long "side-lined" area of Irvine.
The Dundonald Crescent Estate Residents' Association (DCERA) held its first gala last week in Auchengate on the outskirts of the town.
There was a great turnout of residents, friends and neighbours of the street who witnessed a DCERA Cake being cut by local councillor Matthew Mclean who was assisted by group chairman, Adam Plenderleith.
This, and the planting of two cherry trees by a near neighbour and supporter, symbolised the beginning of DCERA, and the anticipated future growth of the community, in the community.
And this is a growth that many will feel is overdue in an area of Irvine which has often forgotten about - but has had its struggles in recent years, which continue to this day.
After attending the event, Cllr McLean told the Times of just how much this group means for those living in Dundonald Crescent.
He said: “I was delighted to invited down to Auchengate to support the newly founded DCERA community group.
"A community is not merely a group of people living in the same area. It is about building connections, and working together towards common goals.
"And Dundonald Camp has had its issues for some time and the community has long been side-lined, and now DCERA will provide a platform for solutions to be sought.
"The Gala Day was a great day out for the community, plenty of treats and prizes for all ages, and the sign of greater things to come.”
