A TEENAGER has been taken to hospital after being hit by a bus in Irvine.
Emergency crews rushed to the Broomlands Busway last night, Tuesday June 6, when the incident involving the 14-year-old boy took place.
Local reports suggested that several police vehicles and at least one ambulance were present on the busy Irvine bus route around the time of the incident.
They added that a number of buses had to reverse back along the route while the incident was dealt with.
Police Scotland have since been able to confirm the nature of the matter, which saw a 14-year-old taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow.
A force spokesperson said: “Around 5.30pm on Tuesday, 6 June, 2023, police were made aware of a crash involving a bus and a 14-year-old pedestrian in the Broomlands Busway area of Irvine.
“Emergency services attended and the 14-year-old boy was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow for treatment.
“Enquiries are ongoing.”
Stagecoach has since issued a statement confirming it was one of its vehicles involved in the crash.
A company spokesperson told the Times: "We can confirm that one of our buses has been involved in an incident at Broomlands Busway in Irvine where a pedestrian has sustained an injury and has been taken to hospital.
"There were no other injuries to the driver or any of our passengers on board.
"Our first thoughts are with the person involved, and we are giving our full support to the emergency services.”
The Scottish Ambulance Service has also been contacted.
