AN AYRSHIRE drama group has announced plans to bring a popular play back to the stage.

Following on from the success of their recent production of ‘Two Cracking Comedies’ on June 1 and 2, Stewarton Drama Group are all set to bring John Godber’s celebrated play ‘Bouncers’ back to the town this autumn.

The fast-moving, night-time comedy is John Godber’s most performed work, and it made the National Theatre’s list of the top 100 plays of the 20th century and is studied widely in schools.

News that the award-winning group are staging the ground-breaking piece of theatre for the second time, following on from their original production of the play nine years ago in 2014, has already sparked a rush for tickets.

Director of the show, Nancy McPherson, said: “I’m really excited to be directing this powerful play which certainly packs a punch.

"It challenges the actors and the director to be imaginative and truthful. The play is at times hilarious, but also sometimes shocking, poignant and disturbing.

"The script never shies away from the harsh truths of urban night life, and John Godber’s dialogue is always slick and authentic.

“In this production, I’ve tried to use music and movement to punctuate the many fast-moving scenes which are sure to engage the audience and keep them involved in this memorable play – once seen, never forgotten.

"If you’ve never been clubbing, now’s your chance to experience it like it often is.

"If you have, you might have some idea of what you’re in for.”

All tickets for ‘Bouncers’ are priced at a flat rate of £9.00 each and are on sale now at www.ticketebo.co.uk/sdg

The talented quartet of actors who will portray the twilight world of the four doormen in SDG’s production are Jim Goldie who plays ‘Lucky Eric’, David Robertson who plays ‘Judd’, Iain Wilson who plays ‘Les’ and Gary Miller who plays ‘Ralph’ .

The smash-hit comedy-drama will be staged in the Stewarton Area Centre on Thursday October 26 and 27, 2023 at 7.30pm as part of Stewarton Drama Group’s 50th anniversary celebrations.
