A CAR was set on fire in Irvine in the early hours of this morning, Wednesday, June 21.
Police are appealing for more information, with the matter now being treated as "wilful fire-raising".
The incident took place at around 1am in the Lewis Wynd area of the town and there were no injuries reported as a result.
Police say they are now carrying out an "extensive" investigation into the incident - including an increased presence in the area.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We are carrying out extensive inquiries and asking for anyone with information, or who may have seen any suspicious activity nearby to please come forward.
“I am particularly keen to hear from anyone with any relevant CCTV from the area around this time.
“There will be an increased police presence in the area over the coming days.
“Anyone with information should call police on 101, quoting incident 0274 of June 21, 2023.
"Alternatively, you can call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, if you wish to remain anonymous.”
