A BRAND new route has been unveiled for an annual fund-raising walk in aid of one of Ayrshire's best-known charities.

The Ayrshire Hospice's Shining Star Memory Walk will take place on Saturday, August 19.

This year, the night-time walk has a brand new start and finish point at the Citadel Leisure Centre in Ayr.

Walkers will pass local landmarks along the route including Burns Cottage, Wellington Square, Somerset Park - and, for the first time, sunset at the Millennium Bridge.

And another first for this year’s walk - which starts at 8pm on the Saturday night and finishes at 1am - will see every walker taking part walk past the Ayrshire Hospice site on Racecourse Road.

Caroline Lyon, Ayrshire Hospice's senior fundraiser, commented: “We’re very excited about this year’s Shining Star Memory Walk.

"Not only do we have three brand new routes to choose from but for the first time all walkers will pass our home on Racecourse Road.

“We welcome individuals, families and teams of friends or colleagues and every penny raised ensures exceptional care for our patients and their loved ones. We are incredibly grateful to our amazing community for their continued support.”

This year's event will again have Lookers Ayr Audi as its principal sponsor - continuing the car dealership's support of the event, which stretches back to 2017.

All those taking part will receive a Hospice T-shirt and at the finish line, they will be awarded a certificate, a commemorative medal to celebrate their fantastic achievement and some much-needed food and drink to refuel.

In addition, there will be a number of local musicians and performers to keep them motivated and their spirits high.

The Shining Star Memory Walk is a great event for all the family, and with three routes to choose - The Pluto Plod (4.5 miles), The Saturn Stomp (9 miles) and The Jupiter Jaunt (13 miles) - there’s a route for everyone.
