THERE was great news this week for those who enjoy a meat-free diet but still want to enjoy fast food in Irvine.
It comes as Taco Bell, which operates in the Riverway Retail Park, launched plant protein across its 132 UK restaurants.
The global chain say it is a perfect alternative for those looking to cut down on their meat intake.
Plant protein comes at no extra cost; customers should simply ask their server if they can swap the meat on the chosen menu item for plant protein.
Taco Bell has added a twist to core menu classics, with plant protein which is made with a unique combination of plant-based ingredients including peas and other legumes prepared with Taco Bell’s bold seasoning.
The company says part of its reasoning behind the move was the increasing number of Britons who consider themselves 'flexitarian'.
At present, 20 per cent of the nation consider themselves to be flexitarian, but Taco Bell say this is expected to rise as high as 50 per cent by 2025.
A company spokesperson added: "This release will respond to an increasing demand for plant-based options and the growing trend of the flexitarian lifestyle with flavourful and satisfying options for those seeking plant-based alternatives."
The product was launched earlier this week, on Tuesday, July 4, and is available in stores now.
As part of the launch, punters can get their hands on the tasty meat alternatives as part of Taco Tuesday deals, you can get a Crunchy Taco and a regular drink for just £2.
