Council chiefs have granted a company a bigger piece of land to develop its business at a major new site in Irvine.
And the area at i3 – the strategic investment campus on the eastern edge of the town – is set to house at least two more projects, officers revealed at a cabinet meeting.
RDK Construction Ltd sought approval for a minor increase to the size of an area of land at i3 that the cabinet had previously approved for sale, subject to appropriate conditions.
The firm says it needs the land for the development of a new factory unit for the construction of modular accommodation.
It would increase the site from two acres to 2.498 acres.
A report to the cabinet meeting revealed that the company has explored sites in North Ayrshire to expand its activities.
It's estimated that 11 jobs will be created initially at the site.
Councillor Tony Gurney, cabinet member for green environment and economy, said: “I welcome this sale of the land as it will help retain a business in North Ayrshire and secure those jobs as part of activities at i3.”
Council officer Marnie Ritchie told the cabinet's meeting: “We have a master plan developed for the site and proposals for investment around the DPMC (Digital Process Manufacturing Centre) project and flexible space projects supported by the Ayrshire Growth Deal.
"Around the area where the land is being sold, we are going to focus on inward investment proposals supported by Scottish Enterprise and SDI.
“That is the approach we are taking at the moment at i3 and we are looking to seek approval of the masterplan at cabinet later in the year.”
Cabinet approved the sale of additional land for the business.
The Strategic Investment Campus is a large site located within i3 – Irvine’s Enterprise Area.
It is already home to around 40 companies including GSK, Vogel and Booth Welsh.
The i3 site is set to benefit from £21m of investment from the Ayrshire Growth Deal.
This will include locating new advanced manufacturing floorspace at the Strategic Investment Campus site.
