A Taster session held by the Maritime Volunteer Service was praised by MP Brian Donohoe. The MP dropped in at a ‘Come and Try’ day held at Irvine Harbour at the weekend. The Maritime Volunteer Service trains people from age 18 to 65 about the sea, both on shore and on the water. Mr Donohoe said: “It was a really fantastic day.”

SCOUTS from Bourtreehill were celebrating after winning a camping tournament. The troupe, from the 73rd Ayrshire Scouts, were judged on their tent pitching, uniforms, cooking and safety skills. They saw off six other teams from throughout Ayrshire to lift the trophy - but were defeated at the national finals in Fife.
