A DREGHORN nursing home has received high praise from an industry watchdog following a recent inspection.
The Care Insepctorate (CI) made an unannounced visit to Shalom Nursing Home on Main Street in the village at the end of last month - and left with nothing but praise for the staff and management there.
Two specific categories were evaluated during the CI's visit, looking at how well the nursing home supports people's wellbeing and how good its leadership is.
Both categories were given a "very good" rating - the second highest mark on the six point scale used by the watchdog.
Not only was the report positive at a surface level, the more detailed feedback provided by the CI also heaped praise upon the staff at Shalom Nursing Home.
Inspectors said they found "significant strengths" in aspects of the care provided, particularly within the relationships between staff and the people they are supporting.
The village nursing home provides care for 45 older people at present, who the watchdog says all receive the best of care.
They report said: "During the inspection, we were able to see warm and encouraging positive relationships between staff and the people receiving support.
"It was clear that staff knew people well and genuinely cared for those they supported."
They also highlighted that the care provided was "person-centred" with each care plan individually created with residents and their families involved in the creation of these.
The nursing home was also praised for the range of activities organised and offered within the home, for which residents and their families are also able to provide input.
This choice was something echoed across a number of different aspects of care provided at Shalom, which the CI said "promoted good outcomes for people".
Management were also praised for their leadership qualities, which the report said was "visible" and that any feedback given was taken on board and adjustments were promptly made.
It added: "We found that staff received regular support and supervision and the management team had clear overview of this.
"We made some suggestions on how to improve the format of supervision template to encourage reflective discussion.
"The manager was responsive to this and immediately made the changes."
