TWO people have been arrested and charged in connection with a "car chase" through Irvine yesterday, Sunday August 13.
The incident also saw one person taken to hospital - though they were later released - after the chase ended with a crash.
The pursuit began after a vehicle failed to stop for police when signalled to do so.
Officers then drove in pursuit of this vehicle - eventually catching it when it crashed into another car on Towerlands Road, around its junction with Cheviot Way. No police vehicles were involved in the collision.
The incident saw a mass emergency service response, and parts of both Towerlands Road and Cheviot Way were closed of for some time.
Three people were initially arrested following the crash - though only two have been charged in connection with the incident.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 8pm on Sunday, 13 August, 2023, a vehicle failed to stop for police and crashed into another vehicle following a police pursuit on Towerlands Road, Irvine.
“One person was taken to hospital and was later discharged.
“A 33-year-old man was arrested and charged in connection and was due to appear at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court on Monday, 14 August, 2023.
“A 26-year-old man was arrested in connection and was reported to the Procurator Fiscal.
