A GROUP formed to tackle isolation among older North Ayrshire residents has been given a funding boost from the National Lottery.
The Woodlands team, based in the Woodlands Community Centre in Irvine, runs classes, events, activities and outings for its members - all of whom are over the age of 55 - to help them socialise and find new frieneds.
The group has been awarded £2,200 from the National Lottery to help meet the cost of the travel expenses involved in their outings.
In particular the cash will help pay for the additional cost of providing a bus that is accessible for disabled users.
Susan Guy, who chairs the group, said: "This group is a lifeline for older people, somewhere for them to come in and something to be a part of.
"This funding will mean we will help us pay for disables buses, among other things, and we are very grateful for it."
The group is open to anyone over 55 who wishes to join, and membership is granted via a small donation.
