The end of August means Marymass for most Irvinites - and 2003 was no exception.

The hot dog stall run by Irvine’s Hammermen was a big hit on the Low Green during Marymass.
Teen weightlifter Freddy Caldwell jetted off to Germany to represent Britain in the European Under-17 School Championships. The 14-year-old, who trains with Kilwinning Weightlifting Club, left for Dortmund after being chosen to represent his country from young lifters from all over the UK.
Irvine’s Low Green was awash with colour at the annual Marymass Carters Gala Day. The festivities were overseen by the new Marymass Queen Jennifer Roger and her four Marys.
Irvine Community Council’s competition for the Best Dressed Marymass Window 2003 was won by Jane’s Alterations.
More than 80 youngsters from Irvine and Kilwinning had an opportunity to develop their soccer skills at a special football camp organised by Gretna FC at Laighdykes Playing Fields.
Irvine Meadow defeated rivals Irvine Victoria 200 in the 2003 Marymass derby. But many said the highlight was the streaker who braved swarms of midges to up cavort round the pitch, take the ball for a mazy dribble and shot a fine “goal” from the edge of the box.
