Veterans of Number One Commando Unit returned to North Ayrshire to present a plaque to the community thanking them for their hospitality when they were stationed here in 1941 and 1942. The group included North Ayrshire’s own commando heroes, Jim Crowe, from Beith, left, and Reg Teager from Irvine.
THE Ayrshire Branch of the MS Society held a fundraising fun weekend at Eglinton Park in September 2003 - with Sunday’s Wonkey Donkey Derby proving a real highlight.
Delighted Porthead Tavern customer Jack Anderson celebrated winning a GALLON of whisky this week. He was presented with the bottle by the Irvine Tavern’s Rhona Paterson. The lucky drinker entered a Bell’s whisky competition after buying a half of their tipple.
Sports-mad youngsters from Irvine Royal Academy were giving up their Saturdays to learn more activities. Over 100 S1 and S2 pupils were taking part in the school’s Saturday morning sports sessions with teacher Alex Jack.
THE Ancient Society of Kilwinning Archers were on target for their 2003 clout shoot at Eglinton Castle. The sharp shooting men and women meet up regularly to practice target shooting and papingo and clout shoots
The Greenwood Academy Senior Choir, led by Miss Hogg, performed at Strathclyde in Harmony at the SECC in Glasgow in September 2003 and received a beautiful certificate of participation.
