POPULAR bakery chain Greggs have confirmed the closure of one of their Irvine branches.
The company had three different stores in the town - one in the Rivergate Shopping Centre, one on New Street across from the Asda car park, and another located within Tesco at the Riverway retail park, as well as one at the Annickbank Service Station in Dreghorn.
The Riverway store has now shut up shop - little over two-and-a-half years after it opened in early 2021.
The branch inside the popular supermarket was a unique feature, branded an "Ayrshire first" which allowed shoppers to purchase takeaway food while completing their weekly or daily shop.
It was also popular with staff at the store as well as those who worked nearby.
However, the decision was taken to close the branch at the end of August.
A spokesperson for the company confirmed that no staff at the branch were made redundant as a result of the decision - and were instead relocated to other stores.
They added that it is "normal practice" to change the shopping structure, which is why the decision was taken to close the branch.
Fans of the popular Greggs products will now need to travel half a mile further to the nearest remaining store on New Street to get their bakery fix.
