With Hallowe'en just round the corner, thrill seekers will be looking for their spooky fix as we get closer to the big day.

One website, UK Haunted Locations Database, has compiled a list of the alleged most haunted places throughout North Ayrshire.

The list covers locations in Kilbirnie, Saltcoats, Eglinton and Arran. Here are the 'most haunted' locations in North Ayrshire...

Craighouse Square

This spot in Kilbirnie is an unassuming alley with businesses, homes and space for parking cars, but is labelled as one of the most haunted places in the area.

The square, which sits off Newton Street, is said to be haunted by two ghosts, including an ice cream seller.

The website states: "Two ghosts are said to infest this square; one is said to be an Italian who jumped from a window, while the other is an ice cream seller who murdered his family."

Brodick Castle

Brodick Castle, whose present building dates back to 1844, is one of two locations on the Isle of Arran on this list.

The building is said to be haunted by a mysterious lady, with a man and a white stag also being spotted be locals and visitors alike.

The website states: "A 'Grey Lady' is said to haunt the castle; in one version of her tale, supposedly she died of starvation in the dungeons in the 18th century because she and two others had the plague.

"Another variant is that she killed herself after one of the members of the Roundhead army made her pregnant. In this version, she drowned herself at the Wine Port Quay, by the entrance to the castle.

"Another ghost is that of a man in a green velvet coat who is seen in the library. A white stag has also been seen when a member of the family is close to dying."

The Lagg Hotel

The Lagg Hotel on Arran is one of the oldest on the island, being built way back in 1791.

It was formerly used as a coaching inn with a few bedrooms on the first floor, before being renovated and expanded to its current use.

Although details are spare, it is said a spectre haunts the hotel after selling his soul to the devil.

The website explained: "The resident spectre is said to be an old laird who sold his soul to the devil. Sadly there are no other details."

Ardrossan Castle

The castle was said to be built around 1140, and stood until it was destroyed by Oliver Cromwell's troops in 1648.

It is said that the castle is haunted by the ghost of William Wallace, who is said to wander through the ruins on stormy nights.

The website states: "Little information is known about the ghost here, except that it is reputed to appear on stormy nights."

Eglinton Castle

The castle has been around since the 1800s, and is a large Gothic castellated mansion near Kilwinning.

Very little of the building has survived over the centuries, but the surrounding country park makes it a popular place to visit.

The website states: "Not much is known about the spectral activity here, except that it is said to be haunted."
