Irvine Incorporated Trades held their annual Big Pie fundraiser last week.
The much loved event sees members of all the trades - Hammermen, Weavers, Tailors, Cordiners, Skinners, Wrights and Squaremen, and Coopers - join trades representatives from across the country for a night of entertainment and fun.
In 1424, in the reign of James 1, King of Scots, it was decreed by Act of Parliament that each Trade in Irvine should choose a ‘Dekyn’ or ‘Master’ to control the quality of craftsmanship within its own particular trade.
And in 1646, a seal of cause was granted by the Royal Burgh of Irvine to unite the seven individual crafts into the Incorporated Trades.
These days, the Trades are more of a charitable organisation in the town, playing a big role in the annual Marymass events.
