An Irvine man who punched and kicked his victim in the face has been fined and ordered to carry out 135 hours of unpaid work.

Lewis Dean, 21, of the town’s Old Caley Road, appeared at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court on Monday for sentencing on a number of charges.

The court heard that on November 15, 2020, at the access ramps to the Rivergate Shopping Centre he assaulted a person by repeatedly punching and kicking him to the face to his severe injury.

He later broke his bail conditions by breaking a 7pm-7am curfew imposed by the court to head back to the Rivergate Centre on January 21, 2022 – then did so again on January 29 that year.

Dean pleaded guilty to all the charges when he appeared before Sheriff Laura Mundell.

On the assault charge, Sheriff Mundell sentenced Dean to 12 months social work supervision and 135 hours unpaid work.

For the two breaches of bail conditions, she fined him £210 and admonished him on a third charge of bail breach in October 2021.
