AN 88-YEAR-OLD woman has died in a crash on a busy North Ayrshire road.
The woman was a passenger in a black Ford Mondeo which was involved in a collision with a white Ford Transit van on the A737 at Dalgarven, near Kilwinning.
The crash happened at around 3.50pm on Tuesday, January 9.
Emergency services attended and the woman, whose identity has not yet been made public, was pronounced dead at the scene.
A 60-year-old man, who was the driver of the car, was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow for treatment.
The van driver, a 37-year-old man, was taken to Crosshouse Hospital for treatment.
The road was closed for almost eight hours to allow officers to carry out investigation work.
Sergeant Brian Simpson, of Ayrshire Road Policing, said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the woman who died in this incident.
“Our enquiries are ongoing and I am appealing for anyone who witnessed the crash and who has not already spoken to officers to get in touch.
“I would also ask anyone who was in the area around that time and who may have dash-cam footage which could assist to contact us.”
