This week, we take a look back at some of the top stories and photos from Irvine and Kilwinning in February 2004.
Who can you spot in these pics from 20 years ago?
A Kilwinning man who “died” following an horrific road accident raised thousands of pounds for brain-damaged children. Battling Matthew Carpenter, 27, had stopped breathing at the scene of the crash, and after being resuscitated just in time by ambulance crews he spent a month in a deep coma before fighting his way back to fitness. Matthew and his stepdad Mark joined five other volunteers at Dalry’s MRC Fitness studio in 2004 to complete a gymathon marathon raising a grand total of £4000.
Four-year-olds Megan Laing and Ewan McColm tucked into some tasty food at John Galt Primary Nursery’s Chinese New Year party in 2004.
Broomlands Primary nursery looked forward to the poetry when they held their annual Burns Supper in 2004.
Our photographer paid a visit to Towerlands Nursery back in February 2004 and found Brooke Anderson, Sam Stewart, Darren O’Neil and James Wilson enjoying playing in the sand pit.
The P6/5 class from Loudoun Montgomery Primary took part in a four week block of curling at the Magnum ice rink in 2004 with champion curler Sheila Swan, who is North Ayrshire Leisure’s curling development officer.
Joining the Nethermains Youth Group at their Burns Supper were councillor Margaret McDougall and young violinists Fate Mitchell and Aaron Robb.
