A MAN has been arrested after an elderly woman was found dead within a property in Irvine.
Police were called to a property in the town's Macara Drive on Sunday, February 11, following reports of a death of a woman.
When emergency services attended the scene, they say that the body of an 81-year-old woman was found within the home.
Police officers say that the woman's death is currently being treated as "unexplained".
They added that an 82-year-old man was also found injured within the property when they attended on Sunday.
He was taken to hospital for treatment.
Since then, the man has been arrested in connection with the incident and police say enquiries are ongoing.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 12.10pm on Sunday, 11 February, 2024, we were called to a report of the death of a woman at a property in Macara Drive, Irvine.
"Emergency services attended and the body of an 81-year-old woman was found within.
"Her death is being treated as unexplained.
"An 82-year-old man was found injured at the property and taken to hospital for treatment.
"The 82-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident and enquiries are ongoing."
